7 Gym Outfits that Flatter Your Shape
You know you’ve been there… staring at your closet, yet feeling like you have nothing to wear, right
7 Must-Have Pieces of Women’s Gym Wear
Refresh your activewear wardrobe with these must-have pieces of women’s gym wear! Get ready – it’s time to hit the gym in style.
Whether you’re heading to the gym for an intense workout or just grabbing a quick lunchtime yoga class, you want to look and feel your best. With the right pieces of gym wear for women, you can show off your style while still being comfortable and ready to take on any activity.
High-quality Cross-training shoes are an essential part of your workout wardrobe. They provide the necessary support for any kind of physical activity, from running to weight-lifting to yoga. Look for shoes that are designed specifically for the type of activity you will be doing and make sure they fit properly. They should have enough cushioning and arch support to protect you from injury while still allowing you to move freely. I’ll focus more on shoes later again because that’s how important they are! (Seriously)
#1 Invest in a good sports bra, actually two or three of them. Find one that supports you well, feels comfortable and then buy a couple of them in different colors. This is really important on many levels, to have the support you need, and choices to complement outfits that make you feel good while wearing them.
Depending on your body type and personal preference, you can wear the bra as a top, some bra styles are short to the band and others are short cami style. Have fun shopping!
#2 Grunge Hip Hop look one of my favorites. I think this look works on all body types. Sweatpants are back in style with the elastic ankles. This look is super cute with a cropped top. Now if you’re uncomfortable with super crop, just make sure your top hits at the waistline of the sweat pants. We’re not going for showing the belly (unless you want to and if so, there are no limits with that look). My recommendation is make sure you don’t choose sweatpants that are too heavy in weight that will make you hot and prevent you from completing your workout. This is important.
There are many options with this look. You can wear a light oversized off the shoulder t-shirt which is super cute and covers everything in the midsection up. Your bra strap shows with the off the shoulder look and it’s very flattering.
You can also wear a sports bra as your top with a cute cropped jacket. Then you have the option to take the jacket off during your workout.
Or, you can just wear a cute plain cropped t-shirt or tank top. Grunge look is oversized, but make sure it’s not too oversized that will have an affect on your workout.
Finish your look with cute flat sneakers. Vans, Converse, Adidas.
#3 If you’re the most popular shape of all, pear, there are many options that are adorable. Flared yoga pants are back and they flatter pear shapes, curvy body types very well. You can wear a cropped t-shirt, loose top like described above. There are no limits with these yoga pants, other than length. If you need petite, be sure to look at the inseam size.
These pants are versatile as yoga pants, walking pants, or cross training pants. They are available in high waist or mid waist and many colors.
#4 A classic gym look that works well is a great pair of leggings, and a loose scoop neck fitness top. This look flatters every body type because it’s simple and classic.
You can mix this up anyway you want it will be a winner. You can buy funky patterned bottoms with a solid top and look adorable and vs. There are truly no limited to this look, the length of the leggings is awesome for switching up summer to winter, or just in general. Make sure you’ve selected the correct size, they feel comfortable, supported and they’re made of fabric that will wick away moisture.
#5 If you are someone who loves wearing shorts, there are various options available. The classic gym short is made for runners, they’re super short, usually with slits on the side. These look great with just a bra top or tank top.
Another option are leggings that are made to knee length. So not truly a legging, nor a short, it’s a combination of both. I actually love this option. If it’s really hot and you don’t want to wear full on leggings, but maybe you’re at a certain age where you don’t want to expose your legs in true running shorts, these make a nice flattering option. I recommend a cropped to to the waist line.
#6 Wide leg pants. This is a great look for yoga, with a loose top. It’s roomy, comfortable and breathable fabric. It allows you to stretch comfortably. This is a lovely classic style that will flatter any body type. Make sure your feel comfortable, have room to do your moves and the fabric wicks sweat.. There are so many I options, but I’ve shown in this blog posts are my favorites.
#7 Shoes matter. The second most important outfit piece you need is a great pair of gym shoes. Don’t walk into a gym with your old dirty shoes. Even if you have to pick up a pair of really inexpensive shoes, do it. Believe it or not although everyone is focused on themselves in the gym, people will notice awful, old dirty shoes. They just don’t work in a gym and you want to blend in, not stand out.
More importantly, you shoes are really your only piece of gym equipment, so the investment here is really important in the long run. I know everyone starts somewhere, so if you don’t get the appropriate shoes in the beginning, make it your first goal. Converse and Vans look really cute and are fine if you working on your arms, shoulders, back and chest. Otherwise, if you’re going to walk to the treadmill, ride a bike or do leg expertises, you are going to need support for your feet. In this vein, looks don’t matter, just get the pair that fits you best. (The ultimate goal is fitness lifestyle). You want to keep coming back, therefore, you don’t want an excuse that your feet hurt, or worse you injured yourself.
