A Perfect Day Trip to Charlottesville, Virginia is one of my favorite things to do. It’s an easy drive and there are some many options, you can spend the day, weekend or make multiple day trips because Charlottesville never disappoints. (It’s actually where I’ve spent my birthday a few times)
Nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Charlottesville, Virginia, offers the perfect blend of history, nature, and local charm—making it an ideal destination for a day trip. Whether you’re a history buff, a nature enthusiast, or simply looking to explore a picturesque town, Charlottesville has something for everyone.
I’m excited to give you this itinerary and please DM on social media @nancybinspired and let me know what you loved best! I’ll bring you on my podcast show and we can talk about it!
Morning: Explore Monticello
Start your day with a visit to Monticello, the historic home of Thomas Jefferson. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a must-see for anyone interested in American history. Wander through the beautifully preserved house and gardens, and take a guided tour to learn more about Jefferson’s life and legacy. Don’t forget to stop by the Monticello gift shop to pick up a souvenir or a locally made product.
Midday: Lunch At The Downtown Mall
After soaking up some history, head to the Downtown Mall, one of the longest pedestrian malls in the country. This charming area is lined with a variety of restaurants, cafes, and boutiques. Grab a bite at one of the local favorites, like The Nook for classic American fare or Bizou for a French bistro experience. After lunch, take a leisurely stroll down the mall and explore the unique shops and galleries.
Afternoon: Wine Tasting on the Monticello Wine Trail. https://monticellowinetrail.com/
No trip to Charlottesville is complete without experiencing its vibrant wine scene. Spend the afternoon on the Monticello Wine Trail, which features over 30 wineries that produce some of the best wines in the region. Consider visiting Jefferson Vineyards, where you can enjoy a tasting with stunning views of the surrounding countryside. If you’re not a wine drinker, the area also offers breweries and cideries that are worth a visit.
For wine lovers, this is the reason why A Day Trip To Charlottesville, Virginia can always be on repeat. No matter the season, you are surely able to experience the beauty of Charlottesville, its’ friendly people, delicious food and decadent wine selections. Evening: Sunset Hike AT Humpback Rocks
https://www.nps.gov/blri/planyourvisit/humpback-rocks-trails.htm
End your day with a short hike up to Humpback Rocks, a popular trail located just a short drive from Charlottesville. The hike is moderately challenging, but the panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains at sunset are well worth the effort. Pack a light snack or a bottle of wine from your earlier visit and enjoy the serene beauty of the mountains as the sun dips below the horizon.
Be sure you’re prepared for this portion of the day. Sober, hydrated, safe and time it for sunset. Bring a change of clothes, hiking shoes, make sure your cell phones are charged. The views are stunning. Hike at your own risk. This is just a recommendation.
