Virginia Beach is the 39th largest city in the United States with 38 miles of beaches! Virginia Beach has a boardwalk that spans 3 miles long and 28 feet wide. It also has a designated bike lane! There is plenty of beach area to spread out. No matter if you visit in peak season or off season, your surely guaranteed a spot on the beach.
One of the best things to do in Virginia Beach is the beach gym. Hillier Ignite Fitness Park is located on 36th street Ocean Front. It has plenty to do if you’re a fitness enthusiast!
There are designated area for adults such as a gym area, there is plenty of room to set up volleyball nets, or room to throw a frisbee! All you need to do is bring your beach chairs, umbrellas, towels, coolers, music and sunscreen. You can rent beach lounge chairs.

Another best thing to do in Virginia Beach is absolutely the boardwalk. The boardwalk is 3 miles long from 2nd Street to 40th Street. It’s 28 feet wide so there’s plenty of room to walk. There is a designated bike lane off to the side.
Most of the boardwalk is really for walking, however, there are a few shops at the lower end of the boardwalk. As you go up there are mostly hotels and restaurants where you can grab a bite to eat or listen to live music. There are benches to sit along the walk, it’s just spectacular anytime of day or night.
One of the iconic best things to do in Virginia Beach is visit the mythical God of the Sea. King Neptune is on 31 Street, be sure to grab a selfie with him!
You can hop on a trolly bike which will take you round trip on the boardwalk. It’s nice for those who might not be able to walk or just want to sight see. These run all day long. It’s a fun best thing to do in Virginia Beach memory maker.
RESTAURANTS
Without a doubt for all the foodies, the best thing to do in Virginia Beach is visiting all the fabulous restaurants. If you want a total beach vibe feel I highly recommend Tulu Bar and Grill. Located inside the Marriott on 42 Street. American cuisine offering homemade burgers, and great cocktails. Coconut Orange Crush was divine and refreshing! I ordered the turkey burger, it was perfect! It’s a replica of Tulu Mexico and they did a good job definitely with the beach chair section to chill and watch the ocean.
You can walk across the street to the Cavalier after dinner if you want to save room for delicious ice cream which is adjacent to the Marriott as well. We ventured across the street to the Cavalier an historic estate in Virginia Beach. This is an Historical best thing to do in Virginia Beach stop. You can stay there for the ambiance, but we found the vibe at the Marriott much better. I mean what’s better than Oceanfront when you’re at the ocean? Cavalier was a view from a far, it had beautifully manicured lawn and lovely estate cottage home flanking their estate. But, having done both, I’d definitely recommend the Marriott Ocean Front hands down was a much better location, high end resort vibe for sure.
If it’s summertime everyone knows ice cream and summer are a match. So another best thing to do in Virginia Beach is to stop by this ice cream shop and get yourself one! Truly! Really great ice cream with unique flavors. This was Tennessee Whiskey Praline. You can order waffle cone, sugar cone or in a cup. This was a single scoop! This was the ice cream and Starbucks coffee shop inside the Marriott hotel on 42nd Street.
SUMMARY
Venture to Virginia Beach, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. The ocean is the ocean the waves are powerful, but in my opinion August is the perfect time to go. The water was refreshing, not freezing cold at all. It was perfect in my opinion.
As you can see the sand was smooth. No shells, no seaweed! It was nice and soft on your feet. Walking from the boardwalk onto the beach, and your beach chair into the ocean. Smooth baby, that alone is one of the best things to do in Virginia Beach. Sit on the beach that is clean, wide and soft!
There is plenty of beach, so no matter how crowded it appears, there is room for everyone without feeling crowded on top of each other.
