Intro
As we hit the halfway point of the year, mind-year check, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the goals we set back in January. But now, six months in, mid-year check since you made your New Year’s Resolution, it’s important to assess our progress and consider a different approach: making daily commitments to our health and well-being.
So where are you in your journey? How is your New Year’s Resolution working out for you? Assess the situation and note for next year. This is how you will keep yourself accountable to yourself. This is why a Mid-Year New Year’s Resolution Check-in is important, rethinking it. Most of the time we make the New Year’s Resolution and forget about. Oh we’re hyped the first couple days, maybe weeks, but as soon as February comes around, statistics show, most people abandoned their resolutions. So let’s talk about why.
The Reality of New Year’s Resolution
New Year’s resolutions are a well-known tradition, but they often set us up for failure. Studies show that most resolutions are abandoned by February. The reasons are varied but typically include setting unrealistic goals, lacking a clear plan, and the inevitable challenges life throws our way. The concept of starting fresh once a year can create pressure and unrealistic expectations.
Here are some Mid-year check-in questions to ask yourself:
- What were your New Year’s Resolutions?
- Were they attainable?
- Have you made the same resolution before?
- If yes, why didn’t it work? Why are you setting the same one again?
- Why did it fail? Were your goals to drastic? Did you set a plan in place?
- If you had to do it again, would you make a New Year’s resolution or would you just try every day to make a better choice?
- Would it be easier to change this resolution with daily attempts than one huge goal for a year?
If you follow me, you know I personally don’t believe in New Year’s Resolutions, I believe we are a work in progress every single day. I believe not matter what goal you set, a vacation, a fitness journey, a nutritional journey, beginning a new hobby, learning something new, etc., those all can be achieved without joining the hype of New Year’s Resolutions.
My opinion is New Year’s Resolutions are for acknowledging the new year, a clean slate, a new beginning, all the more to continue with your daily practices. A fresh beginning of the continuous cycle. I believe it’s a time to look back, reflect, tweak and adjust in the process.
