Winery or Vineyard?
Either way go.
Summer time is the time of year to spend outdoors. So many places to visit and things to do. This blog is all about wine.
One of my favorite outdoor serene places to visit are most definitely vineyards. Maybe because I’m 100% Italian the landscape is peaceful and familiar to me. Perhaps my heritage. The beautifully manicured acres of land with perfect rows of grape trees with perfectly tied shapes to secure their well being. It’s just fascinating to me.
As side from the gorgeous premises, the wine varieties are always unique and fresh. You can find many specialty wine blends when you visit a winery. There are so many so I’ll just begin.
Charlottesville Virginia has a large selection of Vineyards to choose from as well as the entire Commonwealth.. It appears the weather in the region is conducive for good grape trees.
Did you know there are more than 40 wineries, plus craft breweries and cideries in Charlottesville? It’s the Napa of the east coast. Check out the Monticello Wine Trail. https://monticellowinetrail.com/
WINERIES
So what is a winery? It’s a vineyard that grows their own grapes, produces and sells their own wine from those grapes on the premises.
VINEYARD
What is a vineyard? A vineyard is basically a location that grows grapes, (a grape farm) all types of grapes trees and then sends those grapes elsewhere to turn into wine.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA
As soon as you enter the property you can see the topography full of perfectly manicured grape trees. As you proceed onto the premises the walkway is adorned with gorgeous hydrangeas. They are perfectly maintained and just stunning.
Pippin Hill Farm is a great winery to visit as well as its farm. This winery is quite unique because they have a restaurant and their menu is based around what is grown on their farm. You are guaranteed to have a unique menu that will pop your taste buds.
The location is quite large for dining, weddings, dinner parties and more. The location has various indoor dining rooms as well as a spacious veranda.
I went here with a friend for my birthday and at first the beautiful mountain landscape was gorgeous, but the wall of hydrangeas stopped me in my tracks. I have two favorite flowers and this is one of the two.
DINING
ON THE VERANDA
The outdoor seating on the veranda is strategic. The tables and seats are set up to give you an outward facing view of the vineyards and farm. The mountains in the background provide a stunning backdrop to the gorgeous property.
There’s a perfectly sized table with individual chairs and benches surrounding it on three sides. They also have a few individual bistro size tables. Again, keep in mind the seating is designed more for the view and conversation instead of a formal dinner event. Sip your wine, order a flight to try and order food by shared plates or starters size portions.
INDOOR SEATING AND WEDDING VENUE
SHOP
Shopping is very discreet at Pippin Hills Farms, but you can definitely purchase goodies to take home. They sell their wine and little wine related trinkets as well. Pippin Hill Farms has won many awards for their wine blends, I purchased “Reserve” this time. I always tend to come home with a white wine when visiting in the summer. Pippin Hill Farms “Zero”. Is quite popular as well.
COOKING SCHOOL AND MORE
Pippin Hills Farms in Charlottesville is truly a hidden gem. They offer cooking classes as well as wine classes on the premises. I believe they just recently added an art and wine class as well.
There’s something for everyone. If you love to cook, a wine connoisseur or love to paint, you’re sure to find something appealing here.
WEDDING VENUE/LODGING
Pippin Hill Farms is easy to find just about 8 miles off from Highway 64. Once there you can enjoy the winery, have a bite to eat relax for a bit.
The food is delicious and the wine superb. The price point is moderate and Pippin Hill Farms in Charlottesville is definitely worth visiting. My favorite reason is the farm to table aspect and unique menu options.
STAY ON THE PROPERTY
If you want to venture out from Pippin Hill Farms in Charlottesville there are many other things to do that are nearby. However, it you want to stay on the premises and venture around Charlottesville a few days, they have a lovely cottage on the property.
There are many places to stay near Pippin Hill Farms in Charlottesville, I recommend Quirk Hotel second if the cottage on the Pippin Hills Estates is full. Quirk Hotel is eclectic, and centrally located.
